The WHO calls for to be patient in evaluating the efficacy of the AstraZeneca vaccine against the mutated strains

On Monday, February 8, 2021, the World Health Organization (WHO) called for patience and diligence when talking about the effectiveness of the (AstraZenica – Oxford) vaccine in preventing the mutated Corona strain that appeared in South Africa.

The organization added, in a statement, that the basic analysis of the data of the third stage of the tests for the effectiveness of the (AstraZenica – Oxford) vaccine in preventing this strain showed that this vaccine provides protection against severe disease, helps in hospitalization, and reduces death rates.

She mentioned that the additional studies on the vaccine will also allow confirmation of the optimal vaccination schedule and its effect on the effectiveness of the vaccine. She added that, on Tuesday, a team of experts will present recommendations for the use of the vaccine to the Director-General of the World Health Organization, Dr. Tedros Ghebreyesus.
