In June 2020, the Russian Ministry of Health explained that it had launched clinical trials on 76 volunteers for two prototype vaccines. They were tested on two groups of 38 volunteers each. “The clinical trial of the Covid-19 vaccines began on June 17,” said the Russian Minister of Health.
In a press release, he explained that he had authorized these tests, carried out by one of his institutes, the Nikolai Gamaleia Research Center in Epidemiology and Microbiology. One of the prototypes was in “liquid” form the other in “lyophilized” form, he added without further details as to the nature or composition of the vaccines.
After vaccination, the 76 volunteers are placed in solitary confinement for 28 days and are subject to a health check and tests to assess their immunity and potential adverse effects. As early as April, Russia had set itself the objective of carrying out first human tests of the vaccine as early as June. And several research centers are working on various products.
